Sorting laundry has many benefits: extending the life of clothes for improving the quality of life, reducing the chance of bacteria exchange for keeping people safe and hygienic, using the correct laundry method can also protect the environment. People can get these benefits by using our application design “ViSorter”.

EASY & AUTO

Our app is easy to use. Scan or search if you don't know how to care (wash, dry and organize) and sort the load automatically for you. All steps are visual friendly. Draggable laundry load design is easy to use. Show the finish time of laundry machine. Moreover, our laundry calendar will use the date on time, date, location and weather to provide additional suggestions about washing frequency.

SMART HOME

After connecting the smart home system, it is even more convenient. Our app allows you to scan several numbers of clothes with smart labels by touch the smartphone on once. You can tap to scan and let you pick up the clothes which should not wash in the same load. It warns if an overload or lighten the load. You are able to rate every piece of clothing by personal preference. Connecting other existed app such as closet app, shopping app.

Interview

Interviewed 50 people by phone and face to face interview from the 18-65 age range. The interview was about asking them how they do their laundry, in order words, what is their laundry user-flow. Will they sort their laundry? If yes, how often they did it. We found that 76% people do not do sorting and most of them are from 18-30 age group. Although the people who try to do sorting sometime but the way they sort is sometime improper.

A large commercial telephone survey of 805 interviews proposed that some interesting facts, there are 4 factors will affect laundry sorting.

  1. Gender: Men < Women

  2. Age: Teenagers < Adult & Senior

  3. Education: Low Educated > High Educated

  4. Income: Low > High

Our Goals

Therefore, our app simplify the sorting steps, try to encourage men and young people participate actively in the laundry sorting.

User Story
There are user scenarios for my storyboard: Christian, Mary, Tom and Johnny. Christian is an elderly female with rich laundry experience, and she tries to teach her teenage grandson Tom, to do the laundry because he will meet his university dormitory life next week, which means he needs to do his laundry by himself. But he cannot understand the laundry experiences that the grandma told him with no rule to follow. Then, he asks her mom Mary, who also has lots of laundry experiences and Mary tells him to sort laundry by looking at the washing labels. However, it is too hard for Tom to remember that complicated system of washing labels in the week. Finally, Tom uses my app to help him to do laundry. Laundry becomes an easy and painless task for him. When he comes back home during holidays, not only helping family members to do laundry, but also correcting some laundry mistakes that Christian made before that harm for the environment. Tom also refer my app to his friend Johnny tells him it is even more convenient by connecting laundry machines in his smart home system. The app allows him to scan several numbers of clothes with smart labels by touch the smartphone on once.

Sound Interaction

Sound is one of the important media that users interact with ordinary appliances and smart appliances. This includes prompting operation errors. So in our application, let's interact with sound. Including the simulation sound of scanning, throwing clothes into the laundry sorter, and the water when waiting for the laundry.

 

The purpose is to make this application better integrate into the user's life, more credible and intimate. In an important step, attract users' attention with sound, which is a higher level than visual attraction.

Environmental Date

Visually compare the data of the user's use of generally unclassified laundry methods and the correct laundry method of our application to tell users the benefits of using this application, including how much money is saved and how much water resource is saved from the water pollution.

 

We will give the user visual praise, encourage him to share these data on social media. Loyal customer who continue to use our app. Use the application to check in automatically. Check in will get some environmental points. We will use some methods to monetize these points. For example, discount coupons or monthly fee waivers.

The Analyzing of Image Recognition

 

We understand its theory of the way to train Image Recognition AI to analyze an image is using different group of database and naming each of group. Then, let the AI to search what is the most possible answers by giving the percentage of the group, and chose the most matching group.

Smart Laundry Machine

 

Using RFID and NFC technology, combining future popular fabric detection and smart label. Proving that our design is feasible. Now that technology can product smart laundry, although it has not been popularized, it will definitely be one of the hot items of the new round of gold rush in the future.
